About the Chef
Chef Joseph DiFrancesco’s passion for cooking began at a young age. He grew up in a large Irish-Italian family where meals brought everyone together. From holidays and birthdays to Sunday dinners, food & family have always been the source of his inspiration.
Joseph began cooking professionally in restaurants along the South Shore in 2005 and his early experiences
motivated him to attend Culinary School in order to deepen his understanding of his craft. Quickly after enrolling at Massasoit Community College, his commitment to excellence was recognized by the professors and he was awarded the Culinary Student of the Year Scholarship.
Today, he proudly sits on the school’s Culinary Advisement Board and regularly works with the school and its students as they begin their own journeys.
His career with the Bar Rustic family began when he joined Rustic Kitchen, our sister restaurant, as a line cook. He worked his way up over the years at each Rustic Kitchen until eventually earning the title of Chef de Cuisine.
In addition, Joe has spent time working throughout Boston in some of the city’s best restaurants. He has staged with Boston’s top chefs and creative minds to expand his style and experiment with flavors from around the world.
The constantly evolving menu at Bar Rustic is the product of Chef Joseph's decade of culinary exploration. It brings together the best from our region’s farmers, ranchers, and fisherman to create classic New England fare with worldly twists.
Drawing inspiration from the timeless staples of Northern Italy all the way to the spices of Southeast Asia, his creations have a distinct signature and are crafted with love and soul.
